• You do not need a referral to see a psychologist, however, if you would like to claim a rebate through Medicare you will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP.

  • During your first psychology appointment, you can expect to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your personal and medical history, and your goals for therapy.

Your therapist may also ask you to complete some assessments or questionnaires to better understand your current mental health status. It's important be open and honest with your therapist to ensure that you receive the best possible care.

  • Sessions go for approximately 50 minutes

  • Confidentiality is a crucial aspect of therapy. It means that everything you discuss with your therapist is kept private and not shared with anyone else without your permission. This includes your personal information, the content of your sessions, and any records related to your therapy. However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality, such as if your therapist believes you are a danger to yourself or others, or if they are required by law to report certain information. Your therapist will explain the limits of confidentiality during your first session and answer any questions you may have.

  • The frequency of your therapy sessions will depend on your individual needs and goals. Typically, clients attend sessions once a week, especially at the beginning of treatment, to establish a strong therapeutic relationship and address immediate concerns. As you progress, the frequency may be adjusted to bi-weekly or monthly sessions based on your comfort and progress. Your psychologist will work with you to determine the best schedule for your situation.

  • Patients can get an EDP from their GP or Psychiatrist, which allows them to access up to 40 psychological treatment services with a Medicare rebate within a 12-month period. After 10 psychological sessions, the patient will need to visit their GP for an additional 10 sessions to be released.

After 20 psychological sessions the EDP plan requires independent reviews from a GP and a psychiatrist or pediatrician.

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you must provide us with at least 24 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee.

Please Note: No Medicare rebate is available for cancelled sessions.
